We are the Ahrendt family, full time residents of the Gunflint Trail.  We have been paddling these lakes for more than 20 years, as guides, as parents, with friends, for fun.  Shelby and Daniel began taking canoe trips as infants.  We love these woods.  We want to share them with you.

 

 

 

What's special about Tuscarora?

 

As you make your way down our scenic driveway, you will be deeper in the woods than most people ever get. Your northwoods experience will have begun. Our location provides easy access to some of the most remote areas in this Minnesota-Canadian Wilderness  You can paddle away from our docks on Round Lake or Saganaga, or we will transport you to one of several entry points in our area.  We'll help to customize a canoe trip for you.

 

When you drive into Tuscarora, you will see immaculate grounds that indicate the kind of care and attention that we put into everything:  we care about these northwoods, we care about the quality and condition of your equipment, most importantly, we care about you and your trip.

 

Tuscarora Lodge and Outfitters is near the city of Grand Marais, MN., which is about two hours from Duluth, Minnesota. We are located 47 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais, Minnesota. The Gunflint Trail is a two lane paved road that travels through the Superior National Forest. Plan about one hour of travel time after you leave Grand Marais. Have your camera ready and drive carefully since you'll probably come across moose, deer, bear or other critters.

We are located on the west/left side of the Gunflint Trail. You will be turning onto County Road 47 and we'll be one more mile. Tuscarora Lodge is the only lodge on Round Lake. 

 

Driving Directions to Grand Marais:  Take Highway 61 (North Shore Drive) from Duluth to Grand Marais.  Follow Highway 61 through Grand Marais until you see the Gunflint Trail Sign.  Take a left, and follow the Gunflint Trail to 47 miles until to come to the Tuscarora Sign that will direct you to Round Lake Road.
